Intercropping Pulses with Sugarcane

Intercropping is the agricultural practice of cultivating two or more crops in the same space at the same time. In intercropping, there is a main crop like sugar cane and other short term crops like pulses. Farmers currently using the intercropping system are benefitting through increased income from the existing farms. Pulses are legumes and highly recommended to use as intercrops because it helps to improve the nutrition of the soil through nitrogen fixation. Some of these recommended pulses for intercropping are Cowpeas, Pigeon peas, Peanut, Urd, Mung bean.
